The Feed Ghana Programme (FGP) is a national initiative designed to accelerate the transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector. Its goal is to ensure food security, create sustainable employment, and enhance economic growth by reducing import dependency while boosting domestic production and export.

Objectives of the Programme include:

  • Increasing agricultural productivity and production to reduce imports.
  • Enhancing food security and improving nutritional outcomes.
  • Ensuring consistent supply of raw materials to agro-industries.
  • Promoting value addition across selected value chains.
  • Expanding agricultural exports.
  • Creating jobs and wealth for farmers and rural communities.

Role of Farmer-Based Organizations (FBOs) and Cooperatives:

  • Organizing smallholder farmers into strong groups for collective action.
  • Providing members access to inputs, extension services, and mechanization support.
  • Serving as reliable channels for credit facilities, market linkages, and aggregation.
  • Enhancing farmers’ bargaining power and participation in value chains.
  • Partnering with government and private sector to implement sub-programmes of the FGP.
